I love Christmas. The fun putting up the decorations, being with family and friends, relaxing on hot summer days, driving around looking at Christmas lights and of course the wonderful sleep-inducing food coma that ensues on Christmas day. But I must admit I am a little over the excessiveness that is gift-giving. Not only does it put financial pressure on people, but coming up with ideas for gifts can be tough. But! I do love the idea of giving something to someone that I know they are going to love and enjoy. Something that’s not another candle, photo frame or pair of socks.
In the interest of thoughtful, useful and responsible gift-giving, I’ve come up with some great gift ideas for the book lover in your life. Gifts for both writers and readers. And even gifts that you can buy for yourself and pop under the tree!
These journals designed by Valerie Khoo are the perfect give for the writer in your life. Great as a daily inspirational journal, for morning pages, or story ideas, each page has a wonderful motivational quote. The artwork on the cover is divine and will look perfect sitting on any writer’s desk.
Coasters by Gabby
If you take a close look at a writer’s desk, you’ll notice those tea or coffee rings. That’s why these coasters are the perfect addition to any writer’s desk. They are even perfect for the reader who loves to curl up on the couch with a cup of tea or sit outside by the pool with a glass of wine because of course they need something to put their drink on while reading! Available in a range of colourful designs they will brighten up any desk or coffee table.
The Memories We Hide by yours truly!
Of course, I have to include my debut novel in this list! Available in both ebook or paperback, The Memories We Hide is the story of Laura Murphy who returns to her home town ten years after the death of her then-boyfriend Ryan. As long ignored memories begin to resurface, she realises she must find out what happened the night Ryan died before she can move forward. Laura reconnects with childhood friend Tom, to try and find closure, but Tom has issues of his own. Not only is he faced with the threat of losing his farm, but he is also hiding a secret that could change everything.

So You Want To Be A Writer – The Book
If you know someone who is keen on being a writer whether it be a freelance features writer, content writer or author, the book from the hosts of the podcast of the same name is ideal. Packed with everything the aspiring writer needs to know, the writer in your life will be overjoyed to find this under the Christmas tree.
Library Card Tote Bag
This bag is adorable and I want one myself! A bag that looks like the old-style library cards (remember those?) that used to live in the back of library books. Readers and nostalgics alike will love this retro style bag.
I must admit I have wanted one of these for so long but it’s the kind of thing that you don’t get around to buying yourself. There are a lot of these around, ranging from the affordable ones stocked in K-mart or Target, or the pricier ones on boutique home decor sites but this one from The Block Shop, seems to be both good quality and affordable.
PS If anyone wants to buy one for me, I won’t say no!
