My Rating: 4/5

“A heartwarming novel about betrayal, ambition and the power of love.”

Third Time Lucky by Karly Lane is an enjoyable read that had me from page one. The novel follows December Doyle who returns to her home town to try and put back together the pieces of her life. Settling back in with family, December appears to be on the road to rebuilding her life, until bad boy and once love of her life Seth Hunter returns to town with an agenda of his own.

This is my first Karly Lane novel and I think I picked a good one! Karly’s writing style is easy to read and her dialogue is bang on. To every scene she brings truckloads of emotion. Whether it be angst, humour, romance, hurt or frustration, Karly delivers it all with such intensity. Particularly so in the scenes between December and Seth – the chemistry is ten out of ten!

Although this is classed as a rural romance novel, don’t be fooled into thinking it’s a predictable read. Of course, there is the romance element that is the cornerstone of the plot, but Karly has gone beyond such simplicity. The story has many twists and turns that are unexpected and will keep you reading. And she also touches on issues that affect small towns that will provoke your thinking.

December is both likable and frustrating, and at times I found myself wanting to shake her, but that isn’t a bad thing. It proves the author has done their job! I found myself really drawn to Seth as more and more of the backstory is revealed. And I loved that the book makes you contemplate life, lost love, and the fall-out from unexpected events.

Karly Lane fans will no doubt love this book, and I can say I’m looking forward to delving into more of her previous work, and what is to come.
