Is your life too full?

It seems like a funny question to ask, “Is your life too full?”. After all isn’t that what we are striving for? A rich, full life. A life full of memories, success, achievements, balance and having it ‘all’?

However, it appears more and more as I head down the road to a simple life, that fullness is actually found in simplicity. Fullness is found when we have room to think and room to grow. Not when we are bombarded with things and ‘busyness‘.

Even celebrities, who from the outside looking seem to have every opportunity at happiness and fullness, come to find their peace in less, rather than more.

Take Julia Roberts for example.

Here is a beautiful award winning A-list actress who, from our perspective, pretty much has the world at her feet. But even Ms. Roberts admits to finding her happy in de-cluttering her life.

Here is a quote from her recent interview with You Magazine.

Roberts said she had found peace through “studying yoga on a more conscious level” and de-cluttering her life.

“It’s about non-grasping, non-hoarding, cleaning out your closet, dusting out your mind and letting go of the things that weigh you down mentally and emotionally.

“There’s a lightness to my life now – an airy quality of not taking things too seriously. That’s happiness,” she told You magazine.

Yes, even Julia Roberts felt overwhelmed with her life and found her happy in letting go, physically and mentally.

There’s a lightness to my life now, she says.

I love that. Don’t you?

So rather than trying to ‘fill’ our lives with what we think is missing, perhaps, the answer lies in clearing out. Allowing more space for good and happy to enter our lives. More space to breathe and take notice of life.

How many times have you been rushing around and not been able to soak in a precious comment from your child? Or notice the way the crimson clouds are dancing across the sunset? Or to smell the spring rain in the air?

How much life do we miss by trying to fill it with what we believe is the answer to a full, rich life?

Makes you think, doesn’t it?
