It was bound to happen. It always happens. You’ll know what I’m talking about. When you come home from holidays and reality just smashes you in the face. As if to say, ‘Helloooo! I’m here! Life’s not one long vacation you know!’ Yep, that’s what I’m talking about.
This last week has been full of that face smacking, all thanks to reality. First world problems most likely, but hey, my first world problems. Book-work and emails coming out my you-know-what, as well as trying to launch a new division of my husband’s business, snowed me under a heavy cloud of doom. Okay, it wasn’t that bad. But, I did do my very first Facebook Live post in the depths of my despair. Which must have been pretty low, as I didn’t even bother to do my hair, check my makeup or get out of my gym clothes.
But, the soldier I am, battled on through that day and I did actually manage to take a bit bite out of the frog.
Over the weekend, things were on the improve. Well, until about 8:30am Saturday morning, when I went to give Miss 8 a hug from behind as she lay on the bed. You see, at the very same point in time she decided to throw herself backwards at full force, her head connecting with the bridge of my nose. There was blood. There were screams, and many tears. Poor husband had no idea what had happened when we both came downstairs crying, me cupping my bloodied, smashed nose.
It wasn’t broken, I don’t think. And as my nose was already crooked, I’d at least hoped the force had straightened it up a little. But no, I’m now just sporting a swollen, blackened, still crooked nose. It actually still hurts. It’s like someone is squashing my face in a vice. Yeah, nice.
But, it’s not all doom and gloom around here. I mean, this post is titled ups and downs. So let’s get to the ups.
Only kidding. There is an up. And it’s a good one.
Today, I spent six whole hours working on my manuscript. Man it felt good. I didn’t want to stop, but noone offered to pick the kids up, run them around to various places or cook dinner, so I had to stop. But, I did manage this evening to finish off what I was working on and I’m happy to say. It’s ready! Well, ready at least to send out to my beta readers.
A few weeks ago, I put a call out on my Facebook page for beta readers, and I had an awesome response. I’ve decided to send out manuscript 1 to three readers, and manuscript 2 to three different readers. Both works are in various stages of ‘completion’, so it will be fantastic to get some feedback to take them to the next level.
I’m both excited and nervous as hell sending out my work. But I know that my writing will only improve from the feedback. Sure, some of it may be hard to take, but for the most part I know it’s what I need to move forward.
So, that’s me this week. A week of ups and downs. Which really, is just life isn’t it? Some weeks have more ups and others, more downs, but it all works out in the wash right?
How’s your week been, more ups or more downs?
