What’s your favourite daggy song?

Things have been a bit heavy around here lately, what with my Lessons of 2015 posts here and here, and then my last post about what doing something you love every day has taught me. So I thought I lighten the mood for a moment, and ask: what’s your favourite daggy song?

But, before you answer, let me share mine!

My daggy songs were all born from the 1980s.

The 80s was home to some amazing music, but, along with the good, came truckloads of other weird, wonderful and daggy songs. But, that’s what made the 80s right? The kind of music that sticks with you for life, and brings so many old memories back to the surface, accompanied with a big, warm, fuzzy smile.

So here are my top five favourite daggy songs (in no particluar order).

You’ve Got It (The Right Stuff) – New Kids On The Block

Yep, I was bitten by the New Kids bug. They were the One Direction of the late 80s. They could dance, they could sing and to my twelve-year-old self, they were hot! The fascination lasted about three years, but every time I hear this song it brings back such great memories of being a teen.

Ice Ice Baby – Vanilla Ice

I think this borders on 89/90, but it is the epitome of daggy right? Do I know all the words? You bet.

Safety Dance – Men Without Hats

“We can dance if we want to
We can leave your friends behind
Cause your friends don’t dance
And if they don’t dance
Well they’re no friends of mine”

… And a cheesy video to top it off. Enough said.

Fame – Irene Cara

Now, I really don’t see this as daggy – I love this song. Picture me in legwarmers, a leotard (okay, maybe not) and dancing around the living room. Yep. I’m doing it now, just as I did back then. Not daggy at all.

Every Rose Has It’s Thorn – Poison

Now, being a huge Guns n’ Roses fan, to like this anythign by Poison is seen as an ultimate betrayal. But I love this song. In all it’s daggy, glam rock glory. Get out those air guitars baby!

Notable mentions:

Blame it on the rain – Milli Vanilli (or whoever really sang it)

The final countdown – Europe (a singstar favourite in our house)

Wake me up before you go go – Wham! (Just try not to dance along. Just try.)

Sunglasses at night – Corey Hart (Whatever happened to you Corey?)

So, come on, time to spill the beans…
