Today was a good day. I had some unexpected writing time so I sat down with my laptop and began tinkling away on my novel.
I’m currently working on the novel I started during NaNoWriMo. Although I would love to have more words down than I do, I am actually quite happy with my progress.
When I sit down to write I am usually a planner not a panster. I like to plan the story arc, the peaks and troughs for the characters and have a rough idea of the ending. I really do admire pansters who just sit down and the story appears before their eyes. However, during the process if this novel I have found myself drifting off and writing on a whim. Today was such a day.
While getting down to business following my ‘plan’ all of a sudden I found myself off on a tangent exploring a very much unexpected storyline. A surprising development that was the missing piece of the puzzle, slotting in perfectly. And best of all it has added a depth and texture that I felt the story had been lacking, just what I was looking for.
I quite like this pulling on my pansters and writing on a whim. I just hope it’s not a one off occurrence!
